Energy Safe Victoria has introduced Victoria’s first program of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for the electrical trades. CPD is a major State Government initiative supported by unions and employers. It covers safe working topics and aims to help all electrical workers in the community.

You’ve worked hard to get your licence to work in the electrical industry. Industry regulations now mean you must maintain and develop professional skills.

Register

Purpose

CPD is required for all electrical licence renewals after 1 July 2023.

Anyone who holds multiple licence classes will need to complete a course for each type of licence class they hold. The courses have been constructed to ensure little to no duplication of course material.

There is a new policy on CPD and licence renewals, which includes applying for an exemption or extension. There are no age restrictions for doing the training and no exemptions based on age.

Course duration and location

8 hours in classroom and workshop. Brief online reading and videos prior to in-class session.
The content will be approximately 60% ‘hands on’, practical learning and 40% theory.

Fees and charges

  • This course will be fully funded by Victorian State Government for eligible students who are licenced Electrical workers. Eligible students must present either a Victorian Class A or REL licence that is due to be renewed from 1 July 2023.: $0.00 AUD

Entry requirements

Must be a Licenced Electrical Worker – Please ensure you bring your Electrical Licence Card with you to the training session AND a valid ID card (i.e. Driver Licence).

Assessment summary

CPD Skills Maintenance is attendance-based only, and there is no ‘exam’ to pass. The training provider may tell you areas where they believe you could use some extra training or reading.

National recognition

This course is to satisfy the ESV requirement for Electrical Licence Renewal only. This is not an accredited course and will not lead to any formal Qualification, beyond the documentation required for your ESV Electrical Licence renewal.

Course materials

What do I need to bring to my training?

When you go to your training, you can bring:

-your own laptop or tablet
-digital or paper copies of the:
-AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules
-AS/NZS 4836 Safe working on or near low voltage electrical installations and equipment
-AS/NZS 3017 Electrical Installations – Verification Guidelines
-Electricity Safety (General) Regulations 2019.

If you don’t bring your own laptop or tablet, a class device should be available for you to use.

If you don’t bring your own digital or paper copies of the documents listed above, class copies should be available.

For practical activities, you must wear:

-a long sleeve top
-enclosed footwear
-safety eyewear

We recommend that you wear:

-long pants
-electrical gloves.

You are also encouraged to bring:

-a volt/multimeter
-a digital/analogue IR&C tester
-a LOTO kit.

Content will be regularly updated to ensure it is useful and current.

Confirmations

A learner’s position in the course will only be confirmed upon our receipt of a completed enrolment form via this website and your receipt of a confirmation email from us. 

Numbers are limited, so confirmed enrolments will only be able to attend on the day of training.

Electrical Training Academy RTO is responsible under the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator Act 2011 for the quality of the training and assessment being delivered in this course and for the issuance of all AQF certificates.
